I don't care if it's "smart " in fact, I'm not a big fan: more stuff in my house that needs fussy support systems to run properly (i.e., WiFi, battery, proprietary app, my occasional attention), features I really don't need, not wanting yet another thing collecting consumer data for a company, the possibility (in my imagination) of a one-stop wireless exploit for all similar models eventually making them insecure, and the possibility that the tech to keep them active will be eventually phased out by the company. I have a child who will never (seriously) keep track of a key, so I'd like a keypad until she's past middle school, at least. I accept that and am willing to pay up to a few hundred dollars for my personal psychological issues. Perhaps my concerns about security are more about me than about actual facts. Several have said they just leave their doors unlocked just in case someone needs to get in for "a good reason." Not a high crime area, but there are occasional smash-and-grab thefts and (it's a college town) occasional "I got really drunk and wandered into the wrong house" situations. Most of my neighbors don't even have deadbolts on the door. Nothing non-commercial will last more than 3-5 years. Schlage BE365 is a pretty reasonable compromise for most people, for security, convenience, and price. Very few (or no?) consumer-grade keypad locks are awesome. I'm getting the following (correct if I'm wrong): I've been reading lots of experiences and reviews about keypad locks/deadbolts on this sub today.
